Estria Battle NY Artist Profile: CERN

Estria Battle NY Artist Profile: CERN

CERN is best known for his outstanding murals with YMI crew and unique style that incorporates both realism and fantasy art. This year, CERN will definitely be flipping something that is sure to stand out.

How did you become involved with graffiti?
I grew up in Queens NYC and have always been hanging out around handball courts and train lines. Graffiti had already been around throughout my life and I started to participate at the places I was spending time.

How would you describe your own personal style and how did you develop it?
Lately I’ve been calling my style dirty/clean. Some things are done real tight and I try to let other things flow and find their own way. I’ve developed my style through being influenced by NYC graffiti and my own growth as an artist/student of life.

How is your work translated into community work?
My work is translated into community work by engaging with different communities throughout the world and specific projects. Either through education or the  interactions I have as well as the intentions and energy put into my public work.

What are your thoughts on the Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle? Who do you see as your greatest competition?
I’m impressed and grateful to Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle for bringing events like this to NYC where I find graff- oriented events seem to be quite difficult to organize. Overall, the battle has got great energy and spirit from all involved. My greatest competition are all artists involved since I’m my own worst enemy anyways.

If you could create your own Montana can, what color would it be and what would you call it?
I’d create a dark purply black color and call it Cernesto Black Bean, or another flourescent pink called Super Flouro pink.
